Hialeah City Of Progress      Hialeah is a lovely city in South Florida with a population of 223,109 and is the sixth largest city in Florida. Group 1 starts us off with speaking about the mayors of Hialeah over the years. In the past years the mayors have been Raul Martinez, Julio Robaina, and Esteban Bovo. Esteban Bovo is the current mayor of Hialeah. Hialeah was founded in 1920 and only had 2,000 citizens at this time. In 1940, Hialeah’s number of citizens doubled, and there were now 4,000 citizens. In 1960 there were now almost 67,000 citizens. The reason for this dramatic increase was because from 1940 to 1962 there were major events that occurred which then influences the population and demographic. When World War 2 ended in 1945 people started to move down south to Hialeah. Another historical event that took place was the Cuban Revolution of 1959. This sparked a large migration that was called the Golden Exile. With this, Hialeah was 24% White, 74% Latino or ...

Hialeah Reflection        First, Hello to whomever comes across this blog. As someone who was born and raised in Miami, I know a lot about this place......or so I thought. After these amazing projects, I learned so much about Hialeah. The past, The present, The future, and the progression overtime. It was a pleasure to see how all the challenging work done by these students paid off. And, how my hard work paid off with the video I had the pleasure of creating with my group.                Group one's main goal was to talk about Hialeah's past. They were able to explain things well, even though there is limited information on Hialeah's past. They were able to work very well with what they could find.  One thing I had no idea about was the Hialeah Park Racetrack. It was established in 1979 but in 2001, it discontinued its racing events following a change in state law that denied it exclusive racing dates, thereby disa...

Reflection blog 2 To whoever lives in Miami-Dade County, Florida has to know of a city called Hialeah. It is the sixth largest city in Florida with a population 223,109 as of the 2020 census. I would definitely say that Hialeah is one of the cities where there is so much to do and see. Especially when it has so much history that you can learn about. My classmates and I were able to be in groups and be able to show each other the discoveries that we made trying to uncover the past, future, and present.  As we begin to uncover our discoveries I would like to mention that Hialeah is one of the cities that has made so much progress over the years with so much being done with a great community. To anyone who ends up in Hialeah will notice that it is full of people from Cuba. Of course, there are many other nationalities that live there but the major nationality is Cuban. The hispanic communities are what makes Hialeah a place where you want to stop by and drink your coffee in the...

A Day Getting To Know Hialeah. Our project focused on the fascinating city of Hialeah, Florida. We were divided into groups, each tasked with presenting different aspects of the city. The first group delved into Hialeah's past and the second group explored migration from 1960 through 1980. Our group presented the current state of the city, and the last group discussed Hialeah's potential future. This comprehensive exploration offered a deep dive into the various elements that shape Hialeah. The present  The first group dug into Hialeah's past, starting with its early days as a prairie inhabited by the Tequesta and later the Seminole tribes. The name "Hialeah" means "pretty prairie" in the Seminole language. The city began to take shape in the 1920s when aviation pioneer Glenn Curtiss and cattle rancher James H. Bright recognized its potential. The presentations highlighted the socio-political aspects of Hialeah, focusing on key political figures such a...

Weeks ago, we had a new project for the following presentations: the city of Hialeah. The first group presented the city's past; The next group (the second) presented migration in Hialeah from 1960 through 1980 and other points about the city. The group that followed (ours, group 3) presented the aspects of the city's present, and the last one (group 4) presented the future (or what would be the possible future) of Hialeah. In short, we covered a lot of different elements of Hialeah. Going deeper into these presentations, the first group gave an interesting explanation about the past of the city of Hialeah, and they began talking about the socio-political aspects of the city through the years, introducing various of the most important political figures (mayors) that Hialeah had throughout each period. They started with Raul L. Martinez in his two terms as mayor (1981-1991 and 1993-2005). Julio Robaina followed him during his six years as mayor (2005-2011). And then, the last an...

Reflection Blog 1  My first group of classmates introduced the concept of public speaking. The speaker should take a n audience-centered approach when communicating information to listeners. The speaker should not sound like they are reading off a piece of paper, the speech should have a conversational tone that connects with the audience and makes them focused on what the speaker has to say. The information should be engaging, so that the speaker can grab hold of the audience’s attention. Communication is dependent on the cooperation between the speaker and the audience . The first group talked about tips to improve as a communicator and public speaker. A person delivering a speech should place a strong emphasis on being a good listener and maintaining eye contact with the people in the audience, being organized, and having a confident approach and de meanor when speaking to the audience. All the attributes discussed in the presentation by the f irst group will help me and...
